Laser Therapy and Light Emitting Diode (LED)

Target Audience

This course is aimed at nurses, focusing on interdisciplinary assessment and therapy for wound treatment.

Justification and Objectives

Laser therapy and LED are safe technologies applicable by healthcare professionals, such as trained nurses, that accelerate the healing process through action in all phases, from the inflammatory stage to complete epithelialization. These treatments act on processes such as:

• Anti-inflammatory action
• Neoangiogenesis
• Epithelial and fibroblast proliferation
• Collagen synthesis and deposition
• Revascularization and wound contraction
• Reduction of bacterial load

General Objective

To train nurses in the use of laser therapy and LED for wound treatment.
