Basic concepts of injectable medication administration

Target Audience

This extension course on Basic Concepts of Injectable Medication Administration is aimed at students from the Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Biomedicine programs, as well as students from the Technical Nursing Course and other healthcare professionals legally authorized by their councils to administer injectable medications.

Justification

Injectable medications have expanded the range of legal authorization regarding which professionals can administer them. Therefore, it is important for these professionals to have basic knowledge to ensure safety for both the patient and the professional administering the medication.

General Objective

To equip students and healthcare professionals with the skills necessary for the administration of injectable medications in accordance with the legal authorization of their respective councils.

Specific Objectives

• Discuss patient safety in medication administration (certainties);
• Learn techniques for administering injectable medications (SC, ID, IM, and IV);
• Know how to dilute medications;
• Perform venipuncture with Scalp and Aboocath-T;
• Administer fluid therapy;
