Target Audience

This course is aimed at professionals from various fields that require the effective use of language from a persuasive perspective.

Justification

Interpersonal relationships can occur in different ways, within various contexts, so that communication becomes effective and efficient. In our daily lives, we seek to connect and reconnect with the world and each other through various communicative elements, such as speech, writing, gestures, looks, body language, among many other possibilities we utilize. This allows us to learn and develop unique skills for this interaction to happen. It is the human capacity to communicate and relate! But how can we use language to make our communication persuasive? There are choices to be made; means to be sought and tools to be used. Let’s embark together on this experience that is oratory for effective and assertive communication!

General Objective

To develop linguistic skills for the practice of assertive communication.

Specific Objectives

  • Recognize oneself as a language user from the perspective of a communication agent;
  • Understand different discursive genres and their conditions of use;
  • Acquire essential language elements for effective communication;
  • Experience language use situations from the perspective of effective and persuasive communication.

Curriculum Content

[title-dropdown] Module 1 - Fundamentals of communication: verbal, non-verbal, and mixed communication; importance of active listening and question formulation; adapting communication to different audiences and contexts. Practical situations. [/title-dropdown]

[title-dropdown] Module 2 - Body and vocal language: posture, gestures, and facial expressions; voice control (tone and rhythm); language habits (identification and elimination of habits such as excessive pauses, repetitions, and slang, aiming for clearer and more professional speech). Practical situations. [/title-dropdown]

[title-dropdown] Module 3 - Communication in different contexts: how to handle difficult questions in improvisational situations; developing persuasion and argumentation skills; producing different/short speeches. Practical situations. [/title-dropdown]
