Basic Clinical Aromatherapy

Target Audience

This extension course in basic clinical aromatherapy is aimed at health and wellness professionals (therapists, estheticians, massage therapists), as well as anyone interested in learning and starting practice. It is an excellent therapeutic resource that complements and enhances the effects of other techniques such as massage, dietary re-education, rehabilitation in physiotherapy, psychotherapy, among others, as it helps reduce pain, anxiety disorders, stress, and food compulsions.

Justification

To encourage the National Policy on Integrative and Complementary Practices by offering basic Aromatherapy training to health professionals and the general community.

General Objective

The Extension Course in Aromatherapy aims to train Aromatherapists capable of practicing therapeutic techniques.

Specific Objectives

• Promote practical and theoretical knowledge in Aromatherapy
• Present the effectiveness of essential oils in the body
• Ensure that professionals can conduct proper assessments for treatment using essential oils
• Equip professionals to promote the physical and emotional balance and well-being of patients

Curriculum Content

This module aims to help students understand the historical origins of essential oil use and Aromatherapy, what this technique is, what essential oils are, and how to differentiate natural from synthetic oils, the methods of extracting essential oils, and the effects of essential oils on the Limbic and Olfactory Systems, as well as how essential oils act in the body.

This module aims to enable students to know and study in depth 15 essential oils, exploring their chemical compositions, indications and contraindications for use, therapeutic possibilities for each symptom, best practices for use, safe dilutions, and developing technical skills for applying essential oils.

This module aims to help students develop their treatment protocols through discussions of clinical cases, studies of scientific articles, as well as experiencing practical sessions, learning the different ways to use essential oils.
