The collaboration between researchers from Unesc and Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile is progressing with joint academic activities, student exchanges, and prospects for new partnerships. The cooperation began to take shape through contacts between researchers from both institutions and aims to enhance scientific dialogue, particularly in the fields of History and Socioeconomic Development. This week, Unesc welcomed researchers Sebastián Roberto Hernandes Toledo and Elisa Cabrera García.
The professor from the Graduate Program in Socioeconomic Development (PPGDS) at Unesc, Alcides Goularti Filho, explains that the partnership emerged from meetings at international Economic History events and personal relationships with professors from the Chilean university.
Chilean.
“Both institutions have a foundational nature and academic characteristics that favor the rapprochement between graduate programs. Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez has campuses in Viña del Mar and Santiago and maintains a consolidated structure for training teachers, researchers, and graduate students. The affinity between the institutions contributes to bringing the programs closer and expanding the possibilities for academic cooperation,” emphasizes Goularti.
The partnership has already resulted in the participation of Unesc students in an online course offered by the Chilean university in the first semester. This experience has opened up opportunities for new international training initiatives and increased academic mobility.
During his stay at Unesc, Sebastián teaches a course in the PPGDS, discussing the economic, political, and social development of Chile and Latin America, as well as comparative studies. The activity is aimed at master's and doctoral students.
“Sebastián's presence represents an opportunity to deepen the exchange of knowledge and establish new avenues for collaboration. The visiting professor has also expressed interest in expanding cooperation with the American Studies program, to which he is linked in Chile, with possibilities for student and faculty mobility,” adds Goularti.
The expectation is that this experience will strengthen the relationships between the graduate programs and the two universities, as well as open pathways for future partnerships with other Chilean institutions. “The presence of foreign professors fosters knowledge exchange with faculty and students and allows for the presentation of the community model of the University,” highlights the Vice-Rector for Research, Graduate Studies, Innovation, and Extension at Unesc, Vanessa Moraes de Andrade.
During the visit, the training model of the Chilean university was also discussed. Sebastián explains that the institution adopts mandatory courses in Philosophy, Literature, History, and Art Appreciation for students from different programs, including degrees in Nursing and Engineering.
“The proposal seeks to develop critical thinking beyond the specific knowledge of each profession. The curriculum includes philosophy readings in the first year, literature in the second, and activities related to artistic or scientific appreciation in the third,” he states.
Also participating in the meeting were PPGDS professor Giovana Ilka Jacinto Salvaro and the coordinator of the International Relations Office at Unesc, Dayane Cortez.
Received at the Rectorate, representatives from Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez analyzed possibilities for academic exchange and new alliances in research and international training.
