Unesc receives a Letter of Appreciation from the City Council of Balneário Rincão

The 58-year journey of Unesc and the University’s role in the development of the region were recognized by the City Council of Balneário Rincão. The institution received a Motion of Applause on the evening of Tuesday (October 6) in honor of its contributions in the areas of education, science, health, environment, and social and economic development.

The tribute, authored by the president of the Legislative Council, councilor Rogério José Cardoso, was unanimously approved by the councilors and presented to the university administration by the members of the Council. For Cardoso, the recognition also represents the gratitude of the Rinconense community for the relationship built with the University over the years.

“This motion is my authorship, but, in fact, it belongs to all the people of Balneário Rincão and all the councilors who approved this tribute. To speak of Unesc is to speak of our own history. It has been 58 years transforming the lives of our people. How many families have had their lives changed because a child was able to enter the University? How many young people from our region are now doctors, teachers, engineers, and have returned to care for our community?” he emphasized.

The mayor of Balneário Rincão, Luiz Laurindo, highlighted the importance of Unesc for the municipality and the security that the presence of the University represents for the community.

“Everything that Unesc brings and represents is very important for our city. I want to thank the people who believed in this project back then and helped build an Institution that brings hope to people and to the future. Unesc has a beautiful role and brings us security. We have built great partnerships with the University, and the most recent one was related to the Via Rápida project. Congratulations to the councilors for recognizing this journey and this contribution of Unesc to our municipality,” he stated.

Cardoso also emphasized Unesc's presence in different areas of the municipality. “Unesc is community-oriented; it is ours. It is present in health, schools, and environmental projects. When we needed help, Unesc extended a hand. Balneário Rincão has much to be thankful for. On behalf of this Council and the Rinconense people, I express our heartfelt thanks to Unesc for 58 years of knowledge and commitment to our region,” he concluded.

A University present in the community

Leading the University during this period, the acting rector, Gisele Silveira Coelho Lopes, received the tribute also on behalf of the licensed rector and State Secretary of Education, Luciane Bisognin Ceretta. For Gisele, the recognition values a work built daily by many people.

“Receiving a motion like this brings us joy as we see a collective effort being recognized and valued. It is something of great significance for all of us,” she stated.

The acting rector also highlighted Unesc's presence in municipalities and communities through actions that bring the knowledge produced at the University closer to the needs of society.

“Unesc is present in the community from Monday to Sunday. The University is in the squares, in the communities, in the neighborhoods, and this presence becomes natural to our eyes. When we see a University delivering structural projects to municipalities capable of transforming their economic matrices and qualifying not only the people of the city where it is located but of an entire macro-region, we understand, in practice, the difference it makes to have a strong University, present and available to society,” she emphasized.

The mayor of Balneário Rincão, Luiz Laurindo, also highlighted the Institution's journey and the role of education in transforming the region. In his speech, he emphasized the evolution of Unesc and the contribution of educators and administrators to the results achieved by the University.

Laurindo also mentioned the importance of the partnership between the public power and the Institution in initiatives aimed at the development of the municipality, including actions related to the Via Rápida project.

Recognition that involves many people

In thanking for the tribute, Gisele made a point of sharing the recognition with the workers who are part of the academic community. University workers were present at the ordinary session.

“I want to mention our collaborators, with the joy of having many of them here tonight, representing more than 1,600 workers who leave home every day to make this 58-year story happen and evolve each day. The legacy built so far, now with 23,000 students, is a legacy of people who have dedicated and continue to dedicate their lives to building a University that has transcended generations and today fills us with joy,” she stated, also highlighting the contribution of Luciane Bisognin Ceretta to the recent journey of the University.

In the evaluation of the acting rector, the journey of Unesc is the result of the dedication of different generations that helped build the institution over nearly six decades.
