Literature comes to life on the Pedagogy (en) Scene

Fairies, Snow White and her seven inseparable friends, Alice and her companions from Wonderland came to life on the stage of the Ruy Hülse Auditorium this Monday (10/5). Portrayed by students and professors from the Pedagogy program at Unesc, the characters guided children from schools in Criciúma and the surrounding area on a journey through the universe of literature during the Pedagogy (en) Scene 2026.

The play "Where Does Love Live" was presented in three sessions, at 2 PM, 3:30 PM, and 7:30 PM. The first two sessions were attended by invited students from schools in the region. The evening session brought together students, professors, and community members.

The narrative began with the question: where does love live? The search for the answer led the children to a library, a space for meeting books, characters, and new possibilities for imagination. Gislene Camargo, a professor in the Pedagogy program at Unesc and the author of the story, wrote the narrative based on discussions from academic training and experiences shared by students from the schools.

In total, around 600 children from eight schools in the region attended the performances. "Every year I write a story for Pedagogy (en) Scene. The writing stems from what we are experiencing in Pedagogy and discussing about education, including what students bring from their experiences in schools. This year, the theme was literature and how it can help us live better in the moment," explains Gislene.

Alice's Rabbit played an important role in this reflection. With a clock always in hand and haste as a characteristic, the character represented a routine marked by speed. The story also addressed the influence of screens and the constant use of cell phones on the perception of time.

"The library appears as a counterpoint to the rush. Among books and characters, the narrative invited children to slow down, imagine, and discover new ways of looking at the world," Gislene adds.

Learning through experience

For Gisele Silveira Coelho Lopes, the acting rector of Unesc, the experience with art integrates the education offered by the University and expands the development possibilities for students.

"Congratulations to all the actors and actresses who made themselves available to create this wonderful show and recognize the work done with so much care and love. At Unesc, student education is centered on experience. When going through the process of developing a methodology based on the agility of the body, mind, and also the sensitive, one finds the educational space that our University chooses to build," she states.

According to Gisele, the presence of art and culture in educationalso contributes to expression and the ability to perceive the world in different ways. "When art and culture are present in education, we have resilience and the possibility to express the best of our existence. The stories told here represent the playful and invite us to expand our capacity to see the sensitivity around us, realizing that art transforms and liberates," she emphasizes.

"Unesc is a University made by people, by those who choose this place to transform their lives through education. This is what we believe in. From children to adults, we believe that education changes lives and changes stories, just as it changed mine," she concludes.
